A LITTLE HELP FOR GROWN-UPS
Make room for a reading moment.
Choose one manageable activity. Read directions aloud, model when needed, and come back another day. Grade labels are starting points; your learner’s skills guide the choice.
Help without taking over
Before a First Words book
Check the full lesson’s required letter sounds. Teach unfamiliar sound spellings and words before reading. The names and titles may need adult help; do not ask your child to guess a printed word from a picture.
While sharing a longer story
You can read the text aloud while the learner listens, or take turns. Ask for a retelling and invite a clue from the text. Explain an unfamiliar word in context, then return to the story.
When comparing the two plans
Ask for a claim, a relevant text detail, and an explanation linking them. Distinguish what the passage says from what the learner infers. More than one conclusion can be supported.
Keep a simple note
On paper, record the date, text, one independent skill, and one thing needing support. Reread another day to notice change. This page does not assess a reading level or automatically save progress.
